⭐️SMS Teacher Spotlight⭐️: Ms. Gieshala Mims recently traveled to Jackson to present at the Thrive Conference as well as to Chicago as part of the Computer Science Teachers Association (CSTA) Responsible AI Fellowship. As part of this fellowships, she is collaborating with educators from across the nation to develop innovative projects that promote responsible and ethical AI use. Her group’s project focuses on empowering student agency and equipping students to become responsible AI leaders within their schools and communities, with the Fellows’ projects set to be showcased for public use during Computer Science Education Week 2026 in December. Yesterday, our 1st 9 weeks ended with our first charity event of the year: the FCA sponsored Teacher vs Student Volleyball Match! 🏐
Students donated one canned good to enter the event. All proceeds go to Hope Ministries. It was a good time, and of course, the teachers prevailed again! 😉💛💙

We have some AMAZING ATTENDANCE ANNOUNCEMENTS to make! Congrats to our 6th graders for winning the "Amazing Attendance Race" for the 1st 9 Weeks! Their attendance was rate was 96.15% with 7th and 8th grade trailing just at 95% and 94%. Wow!
6th grade celebrated with an extra 15 minutes of break today.
ALL STUDENTS (6th-8th) who attended school 95% of the time or more got to choose a fun snack from Mrs. Palmer's wagon. We are so proud of how many of our students met this goal this 9 weeks! Thank you to our students for coming to school, for our parents and bus drivers for providing transportation, and our teachers for making SMS a place where students want to be.

Today, Mrs. Palmer and Mrs. Swindle hosted our first ever Counselors and Conversations series at SMS. We sipped ☕️ while learning about Google Classroom, the roles of a middle school counselor, and resources in our own community. 6th graders created "Cell Cities” to display their knowledge of cellular organelles and their functions! Each organelle matches a structure you would find in a city based on how the organelle functions in the cell. They were up to the challenge! #tww #CHOP 😀🌆
